Kashmir

“Gar firdaus bar-rue zamin ast, hami asto, hamin asto, hamin ast.”

“If there is a heaven on earth, it’s here, it’s here, it’s here.”

These words of Mughal Emperor Jahangir describing the beauty of ‘Kashmir’ have captivated me since the time I first heard them and the desire to visit Kashmir was something I nurtured all along!

It was not until I visited Kashmir and was left speechless seeing the beauty of places like Srinagar, Gulmarg, Sonmarg and Pahalgam – that the words of Emperor Jehangir started to echo in my head; for Kashmir has indeed aptly been described by him as “Paradise on Earth”

Kashmir will start to allure you with its charm right from the moment one crosses the Jawahar Tunnel in Banihal.

I have travelled to Kashmir via road and the whole road journey is afresh in my mind. The place offers an abundance of varied experiences to those who visit her, whether it is the Mughal gardens or the House boats and Gondola rides in the snow capped mountains of Gulmarg, Dal lake and grassy pasture lands of Pahalgam.

This photograph was captured during the snowfall in Srinagar. It was early morning and freezing cold. I had ventured out without proper kitting but the click was worth every bit of it!

Every place in Kashmir gives you a new look in every season, and that is what prompts me to visit this paradise often. Because, I too, like Emperor Jahangir now often hum and say,

“Gar firdaus bar-rue zamin ast, hami asto, hamin asto, hamin ast”…
“If there is a heaven on earth, it’s here, it’s here, it’s here.”

What do you think?
