Life lesson from Ants

Whether its travelling or journeying through our day-to-day life, we are often guilty of overlooking the ‘small moments of joy’ while in search of ‘days of happiness’.

Thus, often, travelling in natural surroundings and observing little big species at work maintaining the balance of a forest does help put things in perspective.

*This photograph is one such moment captured in the forests of Bandhavgarh.

While everyone on the Safari that morning was busy trying to catch a glimpse of the majestic Tiger in the wild, I was ‘distracted’ watching this colony of ants at work, with each member often stumbling yet continuing to stroll up and down the tree bark, with each diligently executing their assigned task of collecting and storing food for the other ants in their brood.

Ants, I learnt that day, are highly social insects that live and work together in a very harmonious social structure. [You can read more on these tiny little creatures on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ant]

Seeing these ants at work in that moment, I was reminded me of a few lines from a very motivational poem penned down by the famous poet, late Harivansh Rai Bachchan:

नन्हीं चींटी जब दाना लेकर चलती है,
चढ़ती दीवारों पर, सौ बार फिसलती है।
मन का विश्वास रगों में साहस भरता है,
चढ़कर गिरना, गिरकर चढ़ना न अखरता है।
आख़िर उसकी मेहनत बेकार नहीं होती,
कोशिश करने वालों की कभी हार नहीं होती।

We often stomp and trample upon these ants, often unknowingly or sometimes knowingly. After spending a moment that day, observing these ants going about their lives and work, I do make an effort to watch out for them before I take my step forward.

Travel often helps reconnect our bond with nature and helps rekindle our souls with empathy for fellow living beings.

Kindness will make this world a better place for all…
